About Me

Hi, welcome to Tango Lover. I currently live in the United States. Twenty years ago, I badly injured my left knee in an accident, went through two surgeries lasting more than six hours each, and couldn't walk for about six months. At the time of the accident, I had given up on everything, believing I would never walk again. I made a promise to myself: if I could just walk again, I would live the rest of my life without regret, and happily. During rehab after the surgeries, I took up swimming on my orthopedic surgeon's recommendation. Among the people I was learning to swim with, I met a teacher who taught modern dance at a school. She suggested that modern dance could also help a great deal with my rehabilitation, and my orthopedic doctor agreed, so I spent two years learning Modern Dancesport(Waltz, Ballroom Tango, Quickstep, Viennese waltz). In that same class I met people who were also learning Latin Dancesport, so I spent two more years learning Latin Dancesport(Rumba, Jive, Cha-cha-cha, Samba), while also learning club dances (Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Swing, Lindy hop, Balboa) together for three years. Whenever work sent me on business trips to major cities around the world, I always worked during the day and made a point of going to a local club at night, meeting many people and making friends all over the world.

Then, quite by chance, in August 2023, I encountered Argentine Tango in Alabama, USA, and the direction of my life changed completely. Those unfamiliar, clumsy first steps have become some of my most precious memories, and I want to share everything I've learned on that journey with as many people as possible through this blog.

Here you'll find beginner guides to Argentine tango, notes on milonga culture, music and history, and stories of the milongas, festivals and marathons I've danced at and the people I've met along the way. I'm also currently developing a program called Global Tango Events, an app that gathers tango events from US cities and around the world, keeps the schedule up to date every week, and lets anyone register events in their own area. Once development is complete, I'll add a Global Tango Events menu to this blog so you can browse upcoming events right here. I created this space because I wanted to share it with everyone who loves tango. Starting with Dancesport, then club dancing, and finally Tango, which felt like destiny and has inspired me so much.

p.s. I want to take this small opportunity to thank everyone who made it all possible.
